Closer Look

  • The large maple tree has a scar where a huge limb broke.  The branch was weakened by the rot at the top and when it broke, it peeled the side of the tree.  While currently stable, this tree will be watched for further signs of decay.

  • This park is 72% maple trees.  That is not enough diversity.  A single invasive pest (say, Asian Longhorned Beetle) could singlehandedly destroy most of the park's trees.

  • While native here, Black Tupleo is a rather unusual tree to find in a landscape.  Can you find it?

These trees return $554.30 in benefits each year!

In one year, these trees:

  • Capture air pollution:

    • 11.6 oz Carbon Monoxide

    • 169.6 oz Ozone

    • 11.0 oz Nitrogen Dioxide

    • 5.3 oz Sulfur Dioxide

    • 12.8 oz Particulate Matter

  • Intercept and slow down 18,400 gallons of rainwater

  • Redirect 3700 gallons of rain back into the ground

Together, the Jaycee's Park trees have sequestered 156,000 pounds of CO2 in their wood!
