Closer Look

  • There used to be several Green Ash trees here.  Emerald Ash Borer killed most of them and is attacking the last remaining ash.  Can you find the stumps and the damaged tree?  What would the park have looked like if every tree were an ash?

  • On the west side of the park is an American Sycamore.  These fast growing giants can live over 400 years and grow to over 13 feet in diameter!  Our tree is only about 32 inches in diameter and is already the tallest tree in the park!

These trees return $712.65 in benefits each year!

In one year, these trees:

  • Capture air pollution:

    • 19.2 oz Carbon Monoxide

    • 253.1 oz Ozone

    • 16.6 oz Nitrogen Dioxide

    • 8.4 oz Sulfur Dioxide

    • 17.6 oz Particulate Matter

  • Intercept and slow down 30,000 gallons of rainwater

  • Redirect 6100 gallons of rain back into the ground

Together, the Fansler Park trees have sequestered 256,000 pounds of CO2 in their wood!
